WELCOME TO PUBLISHER'S CORNER!
I love our state and the rich cultures that we get to explore and celebrate throughout Colorado. This month from September 15 to October 15th is National Hispanic American Heritage Month. Instated in the U.S. in 1988 the month recognizes and celebrates several dias de las indepedencias (days of independence) including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Chile and Indigenous People's day. This month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans from all Latin American Countries.
Originally the home of Apache, Arapahoe,
During this month the National Park Service, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Smithsonian Education - Hispanic Heritage Month share the heritage and the accomplishments of generations of Hispanic and Latino Americans past and present that have enriched our state, country and society.
History Colorado showcases several Hispanic, Latino and Ingenious peoples who have shaped our state and history helping make Colorado the wonderful place it is.
There are some great National resources listed below as well as state and local information on history and events celebrating our rich Hispanic and Latino history through the decades.
- National Archives and Records Administration
- National Endowment for the Humanities
- National Park Service
- Smithsonian Education – Hispanic Heritage Month
- Indigenous Peoples of Colorado Map (There are several different maps out there on various Indigenous borders)
