Fort Collins Museum of Discovery – PSD Science & Engineering Fair.

By Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Press Release March 17, 2019

On Saturday, March 30, 2019 Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, is thrilled to once again host the Poudre School District Science & Engineering Fair.

Back in April of 1994, the former Discovery Center Science Museum hosted the first Poudre R-1 Elementary School District Science Fair. The Fair was hosted at the former museum from 1994 to 2009. After the 2009 Science Fair, the Fair was relocated to local junior high schools as Fort Collins Museum of Discovery began its transition to the new building where we are found today off Mason Court. After ten years, the Science Fair will return to Fort Collins Museum of Discovery.

What will the Science & Engineering Fair look like as it returns to Fort Collins Museum of Discovery? Staying true to form, the Fair is open to all Poudre School District fourth and fifth graders who have won awards at their respective school science fairs. The Fair gives these students the opportunity to display their top Science & Engineering projects for family, friends, and peers to experience. Community judges will interview students and determine awards for “Best in Show” and other various categories. New this year, however, is the inclusion of group project submissions. This change was enacted to encourage collaboration and promote team building skills. Another new addition is the ability to use electronic resources for data collection and displays.

“Having the district fair back at the museum this year will allow us to give greater community visibility to the innovative science and engineering achievements of the 4th and 5th grade students in Poudre School District. Since student projects will be on display throughout the weekend, we hope it inspires our visitors to wonder about the creative scientific questions that are relevant and important to students in our community.”  - Beth Unger, Schools Programs Coordinator

The student’s projects will be open for public viewing on Saturday, March 30, from 1:30-2:30 pm followed by the Awards Ceremony. After the conclusion of the fair, the public is welcome to view the Science Fair projects between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm free of charge on Sunday, March 31, in the Learning Labs.

Come and be inspired by the creativity and ingenuity of our local students from Poudre School District as they show off their best science and engineering projects!
