Recycling Christmas Trees ๐ŸŽ„at These Convenient Drop-off Sites in NoCo

Christmas is over, now what to do with the trash and trees. Find your closest recycle location in Loveland, Fort Collins, Greeley, Wellington, Windsor and Berthoud.

Recycling in your city: 


The City of Berthoud is recycling Christmas Trees at Berthoud Parks and Forestry Building

Drop off is located at 100 10th St., until Jan. 6. Trees will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Jan. 6 but will be closed Dec. 30 and both Sundays.

Please ensure all lights, decorations and antique ornaments are removed before leaving the tree behind.

This is the only location for Berthoud residents, and those coming to drop-off trees are asked to bring a recent utility bill and check in with staff before dropping the tree off.


The City of Fort Collins is Recycling Christmas Trees at several Convenient Drop-off Sites:

Recycle your Christmas tree for $10 at various drop-off locations around Fort Collins from December 26, 2022 –  January 16, 2023. 

Be sure to remove all items from the tree before dropping off, including: lights, wire, hooks, ornaments, tinsel, and fake snow.

*Free drop-off program for trees will not be available this year. The previous drop-off locations in city parks will not be operational.

Greeley Recycle

Greeley and Weld County residents can recycle Christmas trees at the Greeley Organic Waste Center on 1130 E 8th St. from Dec. 26 to Jan 31. from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

The City of Loveland is Recycling Christmas Trees at Three Convenient Drop-off Sites

Loveland residents are invited and encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees. Tree recycling is easy, reduces landfill waste and provides needed mulch for Loveland’s parks. Last year, approximately 5,000 Christmas trees were recycled into 500+ cubic yards of beneficial mulch. This service is provided free of charge.

Please prepare the tree for recycling by removing all ornaments, tinsel, lights, nails, screws, wire, tree stands and bags. 

Tree drop-off sites:

  • South side: Centennial Park - W. First and Taft Avenue (in the parking lot north of First Street, just west of Swift Field). Accepting trees until January 31st 2024.
  • North side: Kroh Park - North Highway 287 and 52nd Street (adjacent to the Habitat for Humanity location). Accepting trees until January 31st 2024. 
  • West side: Loveland Recycling Center - off First Street & Wilson Avenue - Residents must provide a current Yard Waste Debris Permit in order to dispose of their Christmas tree for free at the Recycling Center. Accepting trees till the end of February. Drop trees off for free.
    The Recycle Center is CLOSED on Mondays, on Christmas, Dec. 25 and New Years Day, Jan. 1, 2024. 
    Regular hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  

Drop-off sites are open daily from sun-up until sun-down between Dec. 27 and Jan. 31, 2023.  Signs will direct participants to appropriate drop-off areas.

Windsor Recycle Location
Free Christmas tree recycling at no cost to Windsor residents starting Thursday, December 28 though Sunday, January 28. Trees can be dropped off near the Chimney Park Ballfields at Chimney Park. Trees must be free of all decorations including wire, hooks, tinsel, tags, plastic and lights. Artificial trees, wreaths, brush and other yard waste are not accepted. Limit one tree per household.

For trees 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 27, at the Chimney Park Athletic Fields parking lot, 200 East Chestnut St.

Holiday lights recycling

Have you come across broken or non-working Christmas lights from last year? Various stores around town will accept these Christmas lights for recycling! Drop off your lights (strands only) at boxes designated for recycling at the following hardware stores:

• Ace Hardware – both locations in Fort Collins
• Lowe’s Home Improvement – all locations in Fort Collins and Loveland

Please note: Christmas lights are not recyclable with your regular household recycling.
