Free Live Music & Admission for Moms in May at Global Village Museum

May 6, 2024

Global Village Museum is celebrating Mother's and women throughout

May with several wonderful exhibits and events.

The States Duo will perform live from 5:30-7 pm Friday, May 3, at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures as part of First Friday Art Walk.

Martin Bates and Janie Stein play folk, country, bluegrass, and soft rock, and the Museum is open with free admission from 5-8 pm.

In honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 12, mothers and grandmothers will enjoy free admission to the Museum on Saturday, May 11, from 11 am to 5 pm.

The Global Village Museum has four galleries, two rotating and two permanent. The rotating Main Gallery hosts three to four exhibitions per year, and the rotating Hall Gallery highlights local artists and organizations.

The permanent galleries are Mundoville and John E. Roberts Village Arts. The former showcases international folk art as well as the world in miniature. The latter is home to world folk art, fine art, and artifacts from Africa and Asia that were donated by local collectors and founding members.

Currently on exhibit in the Main Gallery is Collections: Unexpected Treasures, showcasing a variety of unusual collections. The unique displays include uranium glass, fossils, combs, rocks, thimbles, Cooper’s tools, scrap metal transformed into artwork, stone axes, masks, barbed wire, music boxes, and baskets.

In the Hall Gallery, Inspiring Women of Northern Colorado highlights 48 women who have made a difference in the community by demonstrating commitment, courage, and resilience.

The Museum also features an international music room and the Losel Doll House. The Losel Dolls were handcrafted by Buddhist monks living in exile in India after the takeover of Tibet by Communist China in 1959. The Dolls preserve the cultural dress and costumes of the Tibetans, and the Museum’s collection is one of the largest in the country.

For its younger visitors, the Museum offers a fascinating gnome treasure hunt.

The Global Village Museum is located at 200 West Mountain Avenue, and Museum hours are 11 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday.
