Publisher's Note: My Favorite Articles & Gardening

By Melissa Shrader Editor Publisher Fort Collins Macaroni Kid February 20, 2023

Welcome!

Well! This week is jam packed with holiday fun. President's day Monday, Mardi Gras Tuesday (Fat Tuesday), and we are celebrating Black history month with a couple special articles. My favorite is A Teacher's Perspective: An At-Home Lesson About Black Wall Street. I'm also excited about Girls & Science Day at Denver Museum of Nature & Science is March 3!

We are starting our garden this week. Well, we are planting seeds in our new hydroponic seed starter. After they get going we are going to put them in our window greenhouse then move them to the garden when it's time.

Are you doing a garden this year? Ours is going to be simple. Carrots, tomatoes, peppers (both bell and jalapeno), lettuce, peas, pumpkins, squash (spaghetti) and a few other fun crops.

We are hoping that this helps a bit with our grocery list. We are considering homesteading but more research is needed. I grew up on a farm but city laws are different than rural ones and I want to be sure that I understand what's allowed.

I love gardening. Hanging outside in the warmth of the sun, listening to the sounds of summer. I'm ready for our next season! We'll be one step closer to Summer. For now I'll relish the warm days in winter and the snow day's too! Without the snow days our summers will be too dry for our garden, yard, and so on.
