Grab your summer gear!
The 2022 Summer Reading Challenge at Poudre River Public Library District sets sail with
“Oceans of Possibilities”
on Monday, May 23 and runs through August 15.
Individuals, families, and caregiver groups can sign up online starting May 23 at www.PoudreLibraries.org/src or in-person at one of the three library locations. The free, all ages program features reading challenges, a Bingo challenge, fun programs and activities, and more!
Visit the library after you sign up to receive a gift (while supplies last).
The growing body of research around summer reading and learning is consistent: children and teens lose reading skills and other academic achievement over the summer if they are not provided with quality reading and learning opportunities and access to quality materials. This is compounded in children and teens facing social and economic barriers.
To help “stop the slide,” the Library’s summer reading program is presented in a fun, social way so kids and teens keep their momentum and carry it with them into the next school year. Plus, it’s about having fun and reconnecting with friends.
There are two ways to participate in the challenge and earn great prizes.
Challenge 1: Read at least 10 hours
Read (or listen) for 10 hours this summer and earn a free book!
Challenge 2: Play summer Bingo
For every five-in-a-row Bingo that you complete using your online account, you receive an entry into the Grand Prize drawings at the end of the summer. More Bingos = more entries! If you black out the entire board, you earn an $8 FUN Bucks card from Chipper’s Lanes Entertainment, good for one of the following: a free game of laser tag, $8 of arcade play, or $8 off bowling (while supplies last).
The Summer Reading Challenge also features fun programs like
- a tour of ocean animal specimens in the CSU Biology Collection during Life Underwater on June 1 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.;
- the monthly Out and About series with City of Fort Collins Natural Areas that explores various Natural Areas around town;
- a family concert featuring Latin Grammy-winners 123 Andrés on July 19 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at The Lyric; and
- Sea Rescue, a family escape room experience on July 30 at Council Tree Library.
Exciting summer-long programs like the Monday morning outdoor performance series at Old Town Library
and the Friends and Family Nights on Thursdays at Council Tree Library return to the libraries. The
interactive Kid Zone is also back with art, science, and ocean-themed activities. Some programs required
advanced registration.
