How do you send your kids off to school?

Do you sing and dance?

Well, we all celebrate a bit as they get older, but we usually cry the first time we drop our kids off on their first day of school. At least for Kindergarten right?

Let’s just say that Ogres do things a bit differently. So do King’s and Queen’s. It’s surprising how similar ogres and royalty send their kids off at the tender age of 7. Let’s just say that’s where the similarities begin for Shrek and Fiona.

The unlikely comedy romance has twists, turns, discoveries, and surprises for Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and everyone.

One of the highlights is a unique duet between Shrek and Fiona where they, well, try to outdo each other flatulently.

Needless to say, Shrek The Musical is just a bit different but delightful. You will laugh, your kids will roll on the floor. It’s well worth your time to have dinner and a show and enjoy Shrek the Musical.

Theatrically, the actors are amazing. They deliver their lines with a straight face and delight audiences with the witty banter of the script.

Shrek, played by Scott Hurst Jr. is perfect for this role. He delivers the comical dialog with perfect timing. He shows a command of his voice with strong and commanding verses as well as sweet touching delicate ballads.

Fiona, played by Kelly Maur is fantastic. She portrays the princess perfectly and shows off her comical side with the aforementioned scene among others!

Donkey, played by Oscar Whitney Jr. is HILLARIOUS! He captures the spirit of Donkey and brings the whole show together.

The full cast from Pinocchio to Dragon are wonderful. They make the journey through Duloc a joy!

Dinner and a show!

The dinner was amazing too!

I love salad… I know… Not a favorite of everyone. I loved the Wedge Salad which was packed with bacon, onion, tomatoes, blue cheese chunks, and drizzled with house-made blue cheese dressing. It was amazing and HUGE!

My daughter loved the grilled chicken breast with fries and veggies. She had a Swamp Water in a souvenir cup at intermission and liked it so much she asked for a second one! We shared Apple pie with ice cream for dessert. It was amazing!

I have to say, the apple pie was not what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. It’s tall, to say the least. There are layers of apple and cinnamon stacked inches high and it’s served chilled. They don’t always have it but if they do, I recommend it.

Candlelight Dinner Playhouse is offering posters signed by the cast for $10 to support the Denver Actors Fund.
