Recently my daughter has gotten serious about slime! She loves it!
With that in mind and the fact that I want to know what goes into what my daughter plays with I decided to make some at home, plus it is fun to create stuff with her, she is a blast!
I did a couple of videos that you can find on YouTube to see the process.
Here is the recipe for Borax Slime:
BORAX SLIME (YouTube Video) This is the blue slime
1 tsp Borax Powder
1-1/2 c water divided 1 cup and 1/2 cup
4 oz glue clear or white
food color
1 - add the borax powder to 1 cup of water and stir to dissolve. Set aside. (use small bowl)
2 - Pour glue into medium size bowl add 1/2 cup water and food coloring mix till smooth. (don't put more than 6 to 10 drops as it will dye your skin if you add too much.)
3 - Add borax mixture to glue mixture while stirring. After a few strokes begin to kneed the mixture with your hands to completely combine the borax and glue mixtures. Once you begin to mix them together the resulting mixture becomes a solid fairly rapidly.
4 - Keep kneading until it firms up and feels dry. Discard excess liquid in bowl. Store in a zip lock bag or in a tightly sealed container.
EDIBLE SLIME This is the orange slime (YouTube video)
1 TBSP Clear Fiber Supplement with phylum in it. (try to find unflavored then you can add any flavor drops you like)
1 cup water
Food Color
1 - pour 1 cup water into a LARGE microwavable bowl
2 - add the psylium and whisk together quickly
3 - add color (no more than 3-4 drops)
4 - Microwave for 5 min and mix after each min or as needed. The mixture will expand in the container as you microwave it.
5 - let the mixture cool for about 10 - 15 min before you play with it.
Notes: Borax slime is smooth and is the closest to the stuff you buy at the store, however I tried cornstarch and sweetened condensed milk recipes to create the edible slime and the best closest one to the Borax was the psylium. You can get flavored fiber drink if you like but you will not be able to change the color. We used orange in our video as my daughter likes orange so it had a benefit. The recipe above just adds food coloring and no flavor so if you want flavor either add it yourself but don't use oil base flavors.
