True or False? The personal care products you buy in the United States are safe and effective.
FALSE!!
While most are effective, the beauty industry is somewhat self-regulated and quite un-safe. The United States does have legislation to govern this industry but it hasn't been updated since 1938 and is only 1.5 pages long. While the European Union bans 1,400 ingredients from the products available there, the US bans about 30. What does that mean? We have tons of toxic ingredients in our personal products in the US. Additionally, the term fragrance has been deemed a trade secret allowing even more harmful ingredients into our products here. It is mind blowing to think that our highly developed country is allowing this.
While the rates of cancer, allergies, asthma, autoimmune disorders and autism soar, we are left wondering: Why is this happening? We can't say for sure that the toxins in skin creams, lotions, soaps, and suncreens are causing this, but we do know that the ingredients in these products are questionable, at best. Over 80,000 ingredients have been invented since the last piece of legislation in this industry was passed.
This leaves a lot of questions. If you're anything like me, you've been working to eliminate the toxic burden on your family for some time now: eating mostly organic foods and using non- toxic cleaning methods around the house, among other things. For me, it took the onset of an autoimmune disorder to take a deeper look. Being diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, a disorder where you lose hair in patches, or sometimes all of it, was a wake-up call. What was I missing? After a little bit of research, I learned about the under regulated beauty industry, and through this research, I soon found Beautycounter.
Beautycounter is a company that is mission driven to make changes in congress to our beauty industry in the US and to get safer products into the hands of everyone. While furthering the Beautycounter mission, they also make high performing products that are SAFER. Each ingredient is selected for its safety and each batch of product is screened for safety before it's packaged and sold. Finding Beautycounter, I felt like I struck a gold mine! Not only did I find a way to easily get access to SAFER beauty products, but I loved the mission behind their work. I quickly signed up as a consultant to further this mission, and help educate others about the state of the beauty industry in the United States.
I love knowing when I'm slathering my daughters with Beautycounter sunscreen at the pool, that I'm not also exposing them to unnecessary toxins. When I am taking good care of my skin using Beautycounter's high performing creams, makeup, and cleansers, I'm not adding to the toxic load in my body. There are many other Beautycounter products for all members of your family: men, babies, and children too.

Macaroni Kid Beautycounter Review
Let me start by saying I love just being natural when it comes to my appearance.
Nothing is easier than just pulling my hair back and letting my face shine on its own.
Over the last few years as I age I've noticed the natural signs of aging. The wrinkles, bags, dark circles etc. Age happens right? I have always looked-for make-up, cleansers and lotions that will help with this and not make my face greasy or be too heavy feeling on my face. I've tried several different products over a few years with varying degrees of success. Before I tried Beautycounter I felt that I had the right product and I've been happy with it for some time now.
Recently I noticed that one of my Macaroni Kid business owners had started selling something called Beautycounter. I'd never heard of it. So, being the person I am always curious about something new, I looked it up. http://www.beautycounter.com/ I was so impressed. They are an awesome company and their products contain nothing man made, no chemicals, nothing that will harm you. http://www.beautycounter.com/our-story#ourmission AND the products deliver what they say. Quickly too.
Let me tell you what I experienced. I was fortunate to try 4 samples from 2 lines they carry. Nourishing Cream Cleanser, Nourishing Day Cream, Rejuvenating Eye Cream, and Rejuvenating Night Cream. The products promise a light feel with a deep hydrating feel for your face. Specifically, the Nourishing cream cleanser offers a gentle cleanse with ingredients like coconut oil and soothing aloe to cleanse and hydrate. Nourishing Day cream is never greasy, light weight and hydrating. Rejuvenating Eye Cream promises to reduce those dark circles, bags, and fine lines around the eyes. The Rejuvenating night cream promises to help with the natural repair that the skin cells do at night giving a smoother look and feel to your skin.
I was fortunate to get a 3-day sample of each. (Thank You Robin Hughes)
Day 1 - I was excited to try them all. I began with the cleanser and proceeded to cleanse my face. The cream went on easily and cleaned wonderfully. I also noticed how my skin felt after. Soft and moisturized (not greasy) already. I rinsed again just to be sure I got all the cleanser off. My face felt the same. On to the Rejuvenating Eye Cream and the Nourishing Day cream. Both were light weight and soothing. Neither were greasy. My face felt and looked great. Smoother and softer right away. I kept track of how my face felt throughout the day as it usually gets a bit greasy by late afternoon. By 5 pm my face felt great! Still light and hydrated and not greasy. Now the Rejuvenating Night cream. Again, Light weight, and my face felt very hydrated not greasy. Now I sleep and see what happens overnight.
Day 2 - Looking in the mirror I noticed the bags under my eyes were smaller already. My face appears lighter, brighter and softer. Same routine today as yesterday however today we were in the sun hiking. This would be a great test to see how my face will hold up. After the hike at Lilly Lake, I'm pleased to say my face did awesome! I did get a glow on my face but the results were much different. Usually I break out a bit on the chin and nose, but no break outs and no super greasy areas. My skin still looked great too.
Day 3 - When I got up, my husband asked if I was doing something different. I didn't look so tired. He said my dark circles were gone. I of course needed to check this out. I am happy to say that the circles were basically, gone and the bags were almost completely gone too. The color of my completion was light and rosy not pale and sallow. My pours were smaller and my face smoother than it's been in a while.
I am a frugal person by nature (part of being a mom) and stretched out the samples for 5 days. At the end of 5 days I felt like I'd missed an opportunity. I should have taken a before and after picture. To be frank. I've never experienced a transformation like this before with make up so it didn't even cross my mind.
Now I'm not someone who expects that a product does everything it says it's supposed to do but this one does. I've tried quite a few products in the past few years and each has done something great but Beautycounter delivers beyond what it promised for me. To be honest. I didn't read to see what I was to expect till the end of the trial. I did a blind test of the product and was amazed by the end results. I'd highly recommend trying Beautycounter out. The price is more than I pay but considering how little you use and what the results are it's well worth it.
