Buckhorn Camp & Retreat Center is a welcoming, rustic mountain camp where kids unplug from screens, build confidence, and create lasting friendships through meaningful outdoor experiences. Nestled in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies, Buckhorn Camp has been serving families for generations, offering a safe, supportive environment where children can grow, explore, and belong.

Our summer camps are designed for school-aged campers and focus on fun, connection, and age-appropriate independence. Campers spend their days immersed in nature—hiking forest trails, paddling on the water, learning outdoor skills, and playing classic camp games—while being guided by caring, trained counselors who prioritize safety, inclusion, and encouragement.

At Buckhorn Camp, we believe camp should feel both adventurous and comfortable. Our facilities are intentionally rustic yet well-maintained and clean, helping campers experience the outdoors without sacrificing care or supervision. Campers stay in cabins with peers close in age, share meals together in our dining hall, and enjoy campfire programs that foster laughter, reflection, and community.

A typical camp day includes a mix of structured activities and free time, allowing campers to try new things while also having space to relax and connect. Activities include archery, rock climbing, paddleboarding, team-building challenges, nature exploration, creative projects, and group games. Our program emphasizes cooperation over competition and helps campers develop communication skills, resilience, and self-confidence.

For younger campers or those new to overnight camp, Buckhorn Camp offers a Mini-Camp experience designed specifically for children who may feel nervous about being away from home. This shorter, supportive session introduces campers to the joys of sleepaway camp in a gentle, encouraging way, helping them build independence while still feeling secure and cared for.

Older campers can continue growing at Buckhorn through our Junior Counselor (JC) program, designed for teens who are ready to take on increased responsibility while still enjoying the fun of camp. Junior Counselors build leadership skills, practice teamwork, and learn what it means to be a positive role model, all under the guidance of experienced staff. The JC program offers a meaningful bridge between being a camper and becoming a future camp counselor.

Meals at Buckhorn Camp are another highlight. We serve hearty meals that are kid-friendly, nourishing, and accommodating of common dietary needs. Mealtimes are an important part of camp life, offering moments of connection, routine, and shared responsibility.

Whether your child is adventurous or hesitant, outgoing or quiet, Buckhorn Camp offers a place to grow at their own pace. Campers leave with muddy shoes, new skills, stronger confidence, and friendships that often last well beyond the summer.

We invite families looking for a wholesome, unplugged, and enriching summer experience to discover Buckhorn Camp—where childhood is celebrated, nature is the classroom, and every camper belongs.
