How did you become an entertainer?
“God has a lot to do with it. I was living in San Diego California having lunch with my friend Susie. Her husband joined us last minute during our conversation about my weekend spiritual retreat. I ended up playing water games using my diving rings with about 40 kids who I didn’t know that were also at the campgrounds, swimming in the pool. (In all actuality, the little buggers kept jumping in after my diving rings and I didn’t get a chance to even get my feet wet because there were so many kids!) I gave up in my endeavor to dive into the water after my rings and created a fun entertaining game with the children that lasted 1 ½ hours instead. During that hour and a half nothing else mattered, my relationship that was about to end, my finances, and all other worries melted away. All that mattered were those kids and our game with imaginary points! I told my friend Susie, if I could get paid to play with kids, life would be amazing! Her husband followed up that statement with a job offer. Unbeknownst to me, John (Looney Dooney) is a children’s entertainer and has been for over 30 years. He has traveled the world entertaining the masses and at one point in his career performed as the infamous Ronald Mc Donald. He taught me how to relate to children, talk to them, engage with them, and above all else, that fun is our number one objective. The cool balloons and pretty face paintings don’t really matter.. Ensuring that the children feel special and are having fun is our main directive.”
What types of entertainment are you trained in?
“Dune trained me in games, airbrush tattoos, gave me my first set of practise face paints and finally, before I moved to Loveland Colorado sat me down for 2 weeks, 6 hours a day, and had me twist balloons, then pop them all! To this day I still dislike the sound of popping balloons but the kids love what I create so much, it’s worth my discomfort.
Oh by the way!!! Just a few months ago we expanded into princess parties. We are so excited to offer visits from princesses on our menu! We will be having auditions November 15th, 2014 for several new characters on our entertainment menu webpage. The times I have been invited to attend a party as a princess have been nothing short of magical! When the child answers the door and is greeted by her favorite princess, her eyes light up in disbelief and everyone can feel the energy of the room transform into something so beautiful!”
When did you start your company?
“I started this company when I moved here in October of 2012. I was new in town, had no local friends, and only knew my retired mother and father. I started out sitting in local parks painting for tips, practising face painting, advertising myself. When it was snowing Learning Express Toys in Fort Collins allowed me to sit inside their shop and airbrush for tips. I ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly during my first winter. We reached our 2 year mark this last month and are fortunate to have had this much success in our community as well as surrounding areas. It was either start my own company, or find work for doing something else. I enjoy entertaining 100 times more than what I have a degree in, facilities operations & plant engineering. I do not want to go back to that. It was tough finding work in a heavily saturated male dominante field. I’ve found my passion entertaining and playing with the children. This is what I love doing!
